Behes: Debate for All
A Report
After all the uncertainty of the last couple of years, Behes Team got together to bring things back into gear. It was time to Behes again! Ten teams comprising 30 students from our school took part in the Delhi-NCR Round of the only offline avatar of Behes English debate on 7th-8th May at the Shiv Nadar School, Noida.
Our teams went through two days of extensive parliamentary debate in the Lions and Cubs category. The first day was a qualifier with 3 rounds, the total scores of these rounds determined who qualified for day two. Our teams got the experience of debating on quite unorthodox topics like “This House supports English as the medium of instruction in schools of developing nations”. This debate was a very new competition in terms of the format. The students had to utilize the 15 minutes before every debate for finding statistical or factual material for their speaking time and it inculcated the value of time management and taught them the art of impromptu debate and not the traditional learning type of debate. Ms. Kavita Girdhar also participated in the Tournament as an adjudicator. She was accompanied by Mr. Shambhu Jha who enjoyed the energy of Behes.
The second day, 8th
May 2022 was a knockout round that started with the top 32 teams in Cubs
Category and the top 16 teams in the Lions category. By the end of the day,
Ahlconites had truly arrived as the team of Vidit Varshney, Oshin Gupta and
Saanchi Gupta lifted the trophy as the Best Team in the Cubs Category. Vidit
Varshney was also awarded the Best Speaker of the Tournament.
Ahlconites really smashed
every record as fourteen speakers were awarded Bronze and Gold medals. Sambhav
Kapoor, Saanchi Gupta, Ananya Mishra, Shubham Chaudhary, Newaan Bhardwaj, Oshin
Gupta, Aarav Seth, Kaavya Narang, Rishi Bhatnagar, Shaurya Gupta, Saksham Garg,
Aakriti Bahl, Ananya Bishnoi were our proud speakers to be awarded medals. The
best part was that all the teams qualified for the National level Mahabehes to
be held this year. Hoping to report many more victories!

EKPHARSIS Creative writing Competition
Swasti Jain XII F has been awarded second position in O. P. Jindal School EKPHARSIS Creative writing Competition. She's written a beautiful poem "Cold Shade of Warm Yellow" based on a classical artwork provided by the school.
Swasti Jain Class XII F
********************
Cold Shade of
Warm Yellow
“Sand like sugar betrayed me”, you used to say every time the little
grains of it escaped the packet because your hands knew no control,
Just like your mind;
Your beautiful, high on adrenaline, could run around the block and
still play a song on the flute of a mind that I miss insulting.
The same mind that used words like ‘blasphemous’ and ‘crinkly’ in the
same sentence to fool everyone into thinking of you as a twelve-year-old in a
twenty-six-year-old's body.
The same mind that could never call one thing its own yet knew exactly
what cut of diamond would suit the best on my fourth finger.
I am careful with things now,
Almost miss not spilling sugar outside my cup of coffee which tastes
as sweet as days now;
Not sweet enough;
Not sweet.
I wish I could split with you that lemon meringue for one that barely
filled half a person;
Indeed there used to be a charm in watching you savor a single bite
for ten minutes while I licked the dish clean in five.
It used to be sweet;
Oversweet;
A little less than your smile,
Sweet nonetheless.
“Home like you betrayed me”, I say every time little trailers of our
movie play in my mind because life knew no control,
Just like that night;
The night that saw rain, red and blue lights and tears in yellow;
Sugar on the wooden table;
Coffee on the marble floor.

grains of it escaped the packet because your hands knew no control,
Just like your mind;
I am careful with things now,
Almost miss not spilling sugar outside my cup of coffee which tastes
as sweet as days now;
Not sweet enough;
Not sweet.
I wish I could split with you that lemon meringue for one that barely
filled half a person;
Indeed there used to be a charm in watching you savor a single bite
for ten minutes while I licked the dish clean in five.
It used to be sweet;
Oversweet;
A little less than your smile,
Sweet nonetheless.
“Home like you betrayed me”, I say every time little trailers of our
movie play in my mind because life knew no control,
Just like that night;
The night that saw rain, red and blue lights and tears in yellow;
Sugar on the wooden table;
Coffee on the marble floor.

8TH ALL INDIA SILVER JUBILEE MASTER 26, THE MANN SCHOOL
Report By Krishvi Jain
The Mann School, Delhi, organized the 8th All India Silver Jubilee Master 26-2021 on 16th October 2021. An exhilarating competition, with enthusiastic participants, commenced with an introduction of the students. A total of 17 schools, two students from each, participated to win gift prizes along with the winner’s trophy. A team of Quizmasters made sure no rules got broken. There were six rounds in the competition and an additional 7th round for the tiebreaker.
Round One was the Ice Breaking Session, which was a non-elimination round. The students had to infer the meaning of the displayed word within a stipulated time of 10 seconds. The warm-up session was a great introduction to get the ball rolling.
Round Two was similar to Round One with the incorporation of sentence formation and additional 10 seconds to the time. A few participants got eliminated for genuine network errors. In the end, only 12 schools remained in the competition having one or both of the participants.
Round Three was to identify the correct synonym for the word from the given options. The time got reduced to 10 seconds. With best wishes from the Quizmaster, it began. A total of 9 Schools qualified for Round Four, including our school Ahlcon International School.
Round Four was a mirror to Round Three. The participants were given a time limit of 10 seconds and asked the correct antonym for the word. It was a competitive round with only 12 participants out of 34 remaining. Even after sitting for over two hours, the students were still at the edge of their seats and ebullient.
Round Five was by far the most anticipated as well as extremely difficult one. The students had to retrace the spelling of the jumbled word provided on the screen, within a mere 10 seconds. After the first participant’s try, the Principal allowed an increase of 5 seconds to the limit and offered the rules to be changed. The participants got the leniency to only pronounce the word correctly instead of enunciating each alphabet. With only 7 participants left for the last round, the competition moved towards its end.
Round Six was an amplified version of Round two, as the pronunciation also carried the points this time. It had challenging vocabulary. The participants who qualified for the additional Seventh Round were
Krishvi Jain –
Ahlcon International School, Delhi (001)
Cadet Sarthak
Jha – Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun (020)
MD. Zaid Assalam
– Sharnbasveshwar Residential School, Karnataka (028)
Sienna Chambial – The Emerald Heights, Indore (032)
The alacrity of the competition proliferated as the remaining participants (001 & 032) went into an intensified rapid fire of words. Spontaneity and confidence became the hallmark of the students. After a healthy competition, Sienna Chambial was announced the Master-26 for the year 2021. Krishvi Jain from Ahlcon International School got the runner-up position.
The closing ceremony ended with a vote of thanks to everyone involved in putting together the virtual event and assisting its smooth working. The Mann School principal, Mr. Srinivasan Sriram, also congratulated the winners and blessed the students with his words of wisdom.
It was a great learning experience for the students who participated, Priyal Jain and Krishvi Jain of XI, under the guidance of Ms. Mukta Sharma. So, ending with a thought “There is nothing like a good competition to push you even further. Embrace competition -- you might surprise yourself!”
